In recognition of his professionalism and dedication displayed at sea, Master of “Citadel” Elbrus Ismayilov received a Letter of Commendation by the International Maritime Organization for the act of bravery performed in the evacuation of injured personnel following an explosion that occurred on the vessel “Israfil Huseynov”, operated by “SAIPEM” company for pipelaying in the Caspian Sea, in May last year.
It is worth recalling that immediately after the National Center of the State Maritime Agency received information on the occured incident in May last year, experienced operators of the National Center instantly ensured imposing urgent measures aimed at the coordination of rescue operations, and involvement of relevant agencies in eliminating the consequences of the accident.
Owing to the bad weather conditions that existed during the occurence of the incident it was impractical to deploy helicopters and life-saving appliances, therefore it was requested from the vessel “CITADEL” owned by “BUE CASPIAN LTD” assist with the immediate evacuation of the injured crew of “Israfil Huseynov”. The crew consisting of 17 members under the control of the Master of “CITADEL” vessel Elbrus Ismayilov demonstrated exceptional bravery in the evacuation of injured people at the time of the incident. During the evacuation, injured people were safely and quickly delivered to shore and they were rendered assistance.
Making a safe approach to the pipe laying barge in a dense foggy weather condition, shielded transfer of injured people to the ship and their efficient timely delivery to the medical facilities illustrate the professionalism and dedicated self-sacrifice of our seafarers.
In the official report to the State Maritime Agency, Azerbaijan representative office of “BUE CASPIAN LTD” provided information on the heroism of the seafarers during the implementation of urgent measures for delivering the injured people in the incident to the hospitals.
In accordance with the order of Gudrat Gurbanov, the Director of the State Maritime Agency, the seafarers who displayed self-sacrifice during the rescue operations were awarded with “Honorary worker of the Fleet” medal, and Honorary Certificates for the bravery demonstrated during the maritime rescue operations in November last year.
In line with the instructions of Gudrat Gurbanov, the Director of the State Maritime Agency, the information on the bravery of seafarers displayed during the rescue operations under the leadership of Captain Elbrus Ismayilov, was provided to the International Maritime Organization.
Pursuant to the decision of the Council of the International Maritime Organization Master of “CITADEL” vessel Elbrus Ismayilov was awarded with a Letter of Commendation in recognition of displaying mastery and commitment.
In this respect, Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization addressed a letter to Gudrat Gurbanov, the Director of the State Maritime Agency, conveying the appreciation for providing information on the bravery of Elbrus Ismayilov and kindly requested to extend him sincere congratulations on his behalf.
